Step inside the enchanted world of Under Lock and Key, where players become seekers tasked with solving the mysteries of the Seven Trials. This signature scavenger hunt is more than a game—it’s an interactive journey through the lore of the novel, blending puzzles, hidden objects, and live-action storytelling.

Core Objective

The ultimate mission: find the Key to unlock the ancient Grimoire before time runs out. Players must piece together fragments of lore, decode riddles, and work as a team to unlock the spellbook that can restore balance—or risk leaving the world in chaos.

✦ Game Structure

Immersive Zones

The scavenger hunt unfolds across themed zones (inside the gaming trailer, exterior activity stations, and optional outdoor play). Each zone represents one of the Seven Trials—such as Courage, Wisdom, Balance, and Unity.

Clues & Artifacts

Hidden artifacts include miniature keys, parchment scrolls, enchanted stones, or glowing symbols (UV-reactive). Clues are written in riddle-like verses inspired by the novel’s lore.

Challenges

• Mental Trials: Solve cipher codes, word puzzles, or riddles lifted from passages in the novel.
• Physical Trials: Nerf battle skirmish, timed cornhole toss, or laser tag round representing combat with rival factions.
• Collaborative Trials: Team puzzles that require multiple players to solve together (e.g., assembling a crest).

The Balance Mechanic

Players must balance competing objectives (e.g., collect artifacts vs. protect them from “shadow” NPCs). Choosing incorrectly tips the scale, unlocking alternate endings—mirroring the Seven Trials, One Balance theme.

✦ Endgame

When all trials are completed, players combine their found artifacts at the Weighgate (a physical chest or altar prop). If solved correctly, the chest opens to reveal the ancient lockbox containing the Grimoire.

A dramatic reveal (fog machine, lighting effects, or voiceover narration) concludes the quest, declaring whether the team succeeded in restoring balance—or failed, leaving the world in peril.
